When you schedule a test, we bring an Optima™ monitor to your home. The Optima is manufactured by our friends at Aircuity, Inc. The sensors in the Optima automatically detect the levels of the problem airborne contaminants most commonly found in homes. We help you decide which areas of the home should be tested - usually one location per floor, but there's no extra charge for multiple locations. The Optima is light weight (10 lbs.) and it will alert you automatically when it is time to move it to the next room.

After 24 hours, we will return to retrieve the Optima and the mold- and pollen-canisters. We send the canisters to one of our affiliated laboratories to have the spores identified and counted. The lab results distinguish between 20 different types of mold. Meanwhile, all of the other results - for radon, dust, fine particles, volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, temperature, and humidity - are automatically entered into an expert system for analysis.

The results from the mold and pollen samples are combined with the other results already in our expert system. The Optima monitor and the expert system were designed with the help of the U.S. EPA's prime contractor for indoor air quality studies, Environmental Health & Engineering (EH&E). EH&E is a leader in “forensic engineering” (finding the source of problems in buildings). Using artificial intelligence technology, the collective knowledge of the experts at EH&E is applied to your home.

Within a week of retrieving the Optima monitor from your home, we deliver a comprehensive report. This report contains all of the results in easy-to-read graphs and explanations. The report will contain a section for each location we tested in your home. The Conclusions and Recommendations sections will tell you whether there are reasons for concern and, if so, what you can do to address the problems.
